STARTING FOR THE MOON, the rocket climbs 200 miles above the U.S. east coast. Inside
the earth's shallow atmosphere (luminous band on the horizon) it
flies like an ordinary
airplane at a comparatively low speed. At the lower right is Long Island. At its left end is New York City. In the distance are the Great Lakes. |
