beyond is Scorpio and a part of Milky Way. Earth-light is illuminating the dark surface of
moon.

Top right: As the moon is approached by our
rocket ship, its craters, seas and mountain
ranges become visible; here ship is 500 miles
above its surface. Moon is terrestrial body
with no atmosphere.
At 10 miles above the moon's pole, the
gigantic craters and jagged ridges present
an awesome picture. Temperature of
shadows is far below Zero; in sun it is
hundreds of degrees.
